Spindle-tree – Destiny

A tree of fate.

Key phrases: Understanding through wisdom; the unavoidable; the inevitable; higher forces at work; initiating a new life; completion of events; severing of ties.

We are woven into the lives of others and how we contribute to that is important. Have control over the self. We are the sum of our actions. It is the result of these actions that must now be dealt with. The need to face the inevitable, what cannot be avoided or denied. This statement may sound a little fatalistic and it does not have to be negative if you have woven a fine cloth rather than a web. You will be stuck in suspension if you don’t let go of the past, deal with the now, and then embrace the future. On a spiritual level it is the death the initiate faces in order to rebirth. This can involve regression before progression.

The Spindle symbolises the cloth we have woven in life. 

The Spindle tree represents the ‘completion of tasks’. It also represents the ability to complete something to the end no matter how difficult it may be. It is magickal when you use it during times when you are having difficulty progressing in a certain areas of your life. 

Spindle wood energises the soul. It promotes understanding of the self’s true nature and needs, accessing shadow-self energies in an integrated and positive way. Spindle increases security and reduces the need for comparison with others. Magical Aspects: Work on developing a connection not only to the people in your clan, but in the greater spiritual community.

Oir / Spindle - The hard wood of the Spindle was used in the making of pegs, bobbins and spindles. It is a small and delicate tree with smooth grey bark and tiny white flowers. Deeply lobed brought crimson fruits appear in Autumn. Spindle indicates honour of tribe, community and the sweetness and delight of a sudden revelation.

·       Physical: Fulfil your obligations, not for reward but because you must, honour demands it and the greatest happiness will be yours.

·       Mental: Sudden realization gives you the right and obligation to question authority.

                       Spiritual: Develop your consciousness of the right               relationship with others in the community and tribe.
